  • Our Mission

    Nuts & Bolts of Engineering strives to spark an interest in engineering for children who may lack the opportunities to grow and foster their love of engineering or STEM. Through projects and fun activities, we aid these kids in their engineering exploration and aim to keep engineering open to people of all ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. 

  • Our Projects

    Projects will explore different fields of engineering, such as civil or mechanical engineering, and then short lessons will be taught to expand students’ knowledge of engineering and the world around them. The mini-lessons, instructions on how to do these projects, and updates will also be posted on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook approximately once or twice a month.

    Nuts and Bolts of Engineering is an organization that aims to foster a love for engineering in kids that may not have considered it as a career path. N&B was founded to make engineering accessible to all, no matter the background.

Benefits of Engineering Education

Giving students the opportunity to learn about the field of engineering is beneficial to them in a multitude of ways. Engineering in its essence is developing solutions to problems through mathematics and science. When children are introduced to engineering at a young age, this field becomes less elusive and more applicable to their everyday life. Many children have inclinations towards engineering from an early age, whether it be fixing toys or being curious about how things work. Helping children learn why things work the way they do and showing them that their creativity can help them solve problems, furthers their confidence and transforms what they view as “magic” into something they truly understand and are curious to learn more about. Tamecia Jones, Ph.D., an assistant professor who researches kids learning through engineering, agrees. Jones states, “If you introduce engineering concepts and learning in K-12, you keep them thinking creatively and believing that they can solve problems…The earlier you introduce concepts, the less intimidating it is and students’ curiosity takes hold.” These benefits cannot be ignored. Engineering concepts should be available to children of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds. There are many accessible, low-tech projects that can teach students these fundamental skills and concepts that help them in their lives regardless of the career they choose. Nuts & Bolts of Engineering is only a gateway to expand access to these projects and lessons. We seek to have as many kids as possible reap the benefits of an introduction to engineering concepts.
